Things To Do

Surfing in Cabo San Lucas

People have been surfing in Cabo since the '50s, but it became a hot spot starting in the 80's. March to November is the best time for Cabo surfing. The most famous break in Cabo is called Bahia Chileno located at Chileno Beach, just east of town. It is an fun, easy ride. Costa Azul is home to "the Rock" and Zippers. The Rock, or La Roca, breaks to the right and provides a slow ride. Zippers is the opposite and quite popular due to the fast fun ride it provides. La Bocana, Acapulquito (breaks right), and El Tule (breaks both ways, for expert surfers) are other areas that are popular with the Cabo surfing crowds. On the Pacific side, an hour drive to Pescadero and Todos Santos can be a rewarding surfing adventure.

Places like the Cabo Surf Hotel (858 964 5146), which is just outside of San Jose, offer surf shops. The Cabo Surf Hotel is also home to the Mike Doyle Surf School (Mike Doyle was a legendary surfer during the 1960s). Here you can arrange to get private lessons for $95 an hour and group surf lessons are $70 per person. Lessons include board rental.
